A Place Apart
New Song Sanctuary is so much more than the cabins. Learn more about the setting that makes this place so special.
The Songs
Quiet is not the same as silent. The Ozarks reward those who stop and listen, and every season and time of day unfolds a new tapestry of sound.
The flood of birdsong just before sunup will be familiar to early risers. If you’re not from the south, you’ll likely hear some new voices in the chorus. See if you can identify them!
During the day, squirrels chatter, warblers sing in the treetops, and the thrilling scream of the red-tailed hawk echoes across the valley. In the evening, depending on the season, you may be serenaded by tree frogs, barred owls, whippoorwills, or even a choir of coyotes across the ridge.
The Trees
The slopes to the north and south are forested in white oak, hickory, and dogwood. Towering sycamores and blushing redbuds grace the bottomland, watered by the crystal-clear, springfed stream that flows through the center of the property.
The Flowers
In the spring the woods burst into color. Bellflower, spiderwort, and trout lily light up the understory. Overhead, dogwoods float like white clouds, followed by the delicate pink blossoms of redbud. Summer brings a succession of less showy flowers and grasses in an endless procession of changing shapes and textures.
Wildlife
The woods of New Song Sanctuary are home to dozens of bird species, from a host of songbirds to the flashy pileated woodpecker to the elusive but noisy yellow-billed cuckoo. Squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, and whitetail deer are common sights. If you’re in just the right place at the right time, you might even spot a fox or a river otter.
The Heavens
Step outside at night, switch off all the lights, and you’ll notice how many more stars you can see in our dark sky, an hour’s drive from the nearest major cities.

The Prayer Trails (Under Construction)
When complete, visitors to New Song Sanctuary will have access to more than two miles of quiet woodland walking trails. The routes will wander through cool creek bottoms, over bridges, and along wooded ridges with overlooks, quiet nooks, and benches for prayer and meditation.
Large stretches of trail are completed already, and hard-working volunteer teams are lengthening and refining them so we can open them to guests as soon as possible.
Four bridges are needed to cross streams along the trails. As of February 2026, one has been sponsored, leaving three to go.
Would you like to sponsor a bridge? Reach out and let’s discuss it!
In the Future
Here are a few projects on the road map for the next several years. These amenities will benefit everyone who comes and expand the types events and services we can offer.
Interested in funding a specific project? We’d love to hear from you!
